October issue : BODY SHAMING AND MEN !

Hello my dear readers. Hope you all had a great September month and welcome back to akashbloggings. This month, we are about to get real. What I mean is that for the October issue, am going to talk about something very different which is more for all the men out there. Yes Gentlemen, today I will be talking about Body shaming among gents. Yes, you read that right!
As surprising as it may seem, Men do get body shame either by other men or women. And I think it’s high time for someone to speak about it. Nowadays, issues like Body shaming became more into light due to the fact that people are really starting to really talk about it and it can be also confusing especially when body shaming is addressed to males. After reading stuff about body shaming, I understood and realized a lot of things. So am here to just share or simply document you about what body shaming is all about and how men are concern.

To begin, let’s see what google has to say about body Shaming, ‘Body shaming is the action or practice of humiliating someone by mocking or critically comment about their body shapes and size’. Whether we agree or not, we all have some point in our life body shamed a person and even got body shamed. That’s something completely normal but somehow wrong. Even though media attention towards body shaming is entirely about and for women, no one can deny that men also get skinny-shamed or fat-shamed. Such humiliation can cause damages. All human whether male or female are different . Some are physically and emotionally strong and some are lesser. Such humiliation may lead to social anxiety and even depression. That is one side of the problem. What is also alarming is that Body shaming insists that a body should be right or wrong. Which means, Change yourself to be on the “right” side of health and beauty. Unfortunately, many people make external appearance a “goodness” or “badness” of human character. People who body shame communicate the message that those who allow themselves to exist outside the “right” body norms should be entitled as “lazy,” “unmotivated,” or “undisciplined.” When in reality, your body shape and size has nothing to do with your human character neither your beliefs.

Coming back to the men situation, surveys proved that 62% of men are body shame by their partners which somehow shows how the society is no longer associating beauty and good physical appearance to women only. The pressure on men to look a certain way is so high; all we can think about is our pecs, biceps and triceps. This proves that body image is also a man’s problem and consequently body shaming too.

Fortunately, there are certain male celebrities and pop culture artist that fight back and stood against body shaming like Leonardo DiCaprio or even Vin Diesel who are perfect example of self-body acceptance.

Solution to this problem is simple yet quite impossible. Judging other people is something which is totally human and somehow uncontrollable. Since we cannot control what other people will think of us, then why focusing on someone else’s opinion of body perfection and letting that damage our confidence. You should only and only change physically if you’re willing to and not because of society want you to. You should try to have a body in which you are happy, healthy and confident. And that body comes in all shapes and sizes. All depends on your idea of beauty and masculinity.
To end this post, I would suggest you to prevent society from drawing a line between the worthy and the unworthy. From people who count and people who don’t count. From the lovable and the unlovable. And I will end up with a cheesy quote I found on Instagram but which is means a lot, “Don’t change yourself, Be you  and the world will adjust”.

Hope you guys like this little (long) article. This really meant a lot to me. Don’t forget to leave a comment if you like the article. See you next month for the November issue. Until then take care.
